about

The history of pop music is full of songs about love, cars and death. In Leifson's take on this theme, the deceased is a woman for whom life went awry, and who ended up living in her car. "A beach somewhere" is written from the perspective of the grieving lover, who dreams of meeting her again in the afterlife. The song is more up-tempo than Leifson's previous songs, and is driven forward by a dense beat of bass, drums and synth, and with a chorus that sticks.

lyrics

A photo of herself from some beach somewhere, in a woolen jacket and a winter hat,
sits atop her unsmoked cigarettes, on the passenger seat. It’s all that is left.

No need to be told, when you know you just know. When to let go and melt into the heavens.

When you leave and I am left behind, I’ll drown out that pain ‘till we meet again. Someday soon I’ll be there where you are, stepping out of the night and into the afterlife.

No need to be told, when you know you just know. When to let go and melt into the heavens.
I’ll never let go, when you know you just know. I know our souls belong together.

When you leave and I am left behind, I’ll drown out that pain ‘till we meet again. Someday soon I’ll be there where you are, stepping out of the night and into the afterlife.
