about
«Fountain of St. Katarina» is the title song of Leifson’s upcoming album, and was one of the first songs he wrote for it. It is a song about one-sided love to an idealized woman, St. Katarina, and of the necessity to move on in life. The somewhat static song has a strange dynamic to it, coming from a distorted baryton guitar riff, great background vocals from Hanne Fjeldstad, and Bendik Brænnes' airy saxophone.
lyrics
That time she passed you in the hallway and she stared a hole in the goddamn wall, and you told your friends how it did not hurt you when it shaved years of your soul.
Into the tear soaked pillow soft cries melted with the night. Then he dreamt that he saw her by that fountain showing all signs of waiting for someone. A nearby tree has half her face in darkness, half in the Sun.
And the hope that he had is just gone and regret is all that’s left when he’s alone. Like shadows chased around here by the Sun.
Man, I know she isn’t for you, accept it so you can move on. Yes, be like water passing over mistakes and seaweed, failed hope and stones.
Into the tear soaked pillow soft cries melted with the night. Then he dreamt that he saw her by that fountain showing all signs of waiting for someone, half in the Sun.
And the hope that he had is just gone and regret is all that’s left when he’s alone. Like shadows chased around here by the Sun; swearing never to return.
